This essay describes the growth and development of the city of Riyadh Saudi Arabia. The ancient is compared with the modern with great detail. Riyadh is the home of my birth. A desert city, it was one of the first areas in Saudi Arabia to be developed. The memories of my youth are dirt streets with Arabian men in traditional clothes and women dressed in black. Very rarely could I hear the engine of an automobile because most people traveled on foot or on the back of a beast of burden. Food and water were always in short supply and buildings were shacks without carpets of windows. Many people has no homes and lived in tents and a Bedouin camp was not an unusual site, but the peaceful calm of tradition would have to give way to modernization. A descriptive paper for a Basic English Class.
