Mind Self and Society

George Herbert Mead played a major role in the development of American philosophy through his teachings and writings on his trilogy of consciousness: the mind, the self, and the organism. Mead’s influence facilitated the shaping of social theory in the 20th century, particularly by founding the social interaction approach. His thoughts on consciousness are considered by social behaviorists to be groundbreaking and thought provoking because he determines consciousness to be outside in the world and outside the organism. This précis will discuss Mead’s key concepts in the article “Mind Self and Society”.
