Creating Public Perception: The Negative Influence of the Media on Crime.
In this essay, the influence of the media on crime is discussed in terms of public perceptions. By exploring the relationship between media representations of crime, and public perceptions of crime, it becomes possible to understand how the media have created a perception of crime that is contradictory to facts about crime. As public perception of crime becomes increasingly subjective, the larger issues of criminal justice become harder to debate, and more difficult to comprehend.
