Contraception is now, and has long been a critical element in maintaining not only family planning efforts, but public health interests and goals as well. The history of contraception begins, most likely, when people first began to draw a connection between sex and procreation. Controversy, too, has followed the history of contraception in its use, promotion, science and methodology. There are, as this research will explore, a broad variety of types of contraception, as well as a broad range of opinions, positions, and debates over it at many different levels. It will be the purpose of this paper, then, to explore these elements and to gain a full understanding of the history, method, and issues surrounding and of contraception.
