The Industrial Era of history was in many ways similar to todays chaotic world. New industries had sprung forth. Technology was revolutionizing how people worked and lived. This same technology was also bringing about the first round of globalization. Yet, for many, being a citizen during the Industrial Revolution brought with it many challenges. This paper will focus on what being a citizen in this era entailed, and will show the similarities of situations citizens endured despite the vast geographic distances between England, America, Egypt, and India. In addition, a discussion of how this era may be a forewarning to current globalization trends will also be had.
