This paper will examine the importance of the family feud in the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. By understanding the basis of family fighting as the reason why Romeo and Juliet can never make their love public, we can see why Shakespeare forms a tragedy centered on forbidden love. Without the fighting families to bring the lovers into isolation, they would have never become victims of suicide at the end of the play.
