Comparative Review of Multilevel Secure DBMS Architectures

The old adage, “information is power” has never been more true than today. Thanks to technology, people can now manage that information. Store it. Sort it. Manipulate it to whatever purposes that it suits them. A database management system (DBMS) is the tool that allows all this and more to be done. DBMSs are “a collection of programs that enables (one) to store, modify, and extract information from a database. There are many different types of DBMSs, ranging from small systems that run on personal computers to huge systems that run on mainframes.” (“Database Management”) No matter how they are organized, or what language they are written in, with the collection and storage of valuable information comes the challenges of thwarting those whose goals are to steal it or destroy it.
