ADHD Comorbidity: In Support of Adolescent Diagnosis
Review of one longitudinal study by Beiderman, et al. as it relates to the co morbidity of child and adolescent conduct and oppositional defiant disorders, specifically, Diagnostic continuity between child and adolescent ADHD: findings from a longitudinal clinical sample, published in March 1998. Section headings include: background, hypothesis, method, results and conclusion. There is also a brief discussion of the variables used. The authors hypothesize and prove that adolescents should not be excluded from diagnosis for ADHD in clinical settings (both psychiatric and physicians offices) just because they are nearly adults, because of the substantive evidence for co morbidity of ADHD. Their findings include strong evidence of familial transmission.
