This paper considers different conceptions and practices of jihad in the Islamic world, noting the division between the Sunni and the Shi'a on this and other issues and considering how Jihad is practiced today, with the term being still only partially understood in the West, and even in the Muslim world, the concept has different meanings for different groups.
