Politics and Human Nature A Deconstruction and Comparison of John Locke And Thomas Hobbes

In this paper, we will not only discus the role human nature plays in politics, but also how our changing views of the nature of human nature affects how we set up our political systems. To achieve this, we aim to look at significant pieces of political thinking, namely Hobbes writings in the Leviathan and Locke's Second Treatise of government. We will begin this essay by addressing four key areas, firstly the philosophical concept of 'the state of nature' where we shall also include a brief outline of how human nature is defined, secondly natural laws, thirdly the social contract theory and finally government. The final aspect of this essay is to offer a critique of the arguments, which will lead on to a concise conclusion.
