This paper compares the concepts of politics Gramsci and Schmitt.
For Gramsci, politics is synonymous for hegemony, which is a process of winning the consent of dominated classes through the use of coercion and ideological means. Carl Schmitt does not see the importance of ideology in politics and explains that every political institution is based on the absolute primacy of the friend versus foe divide.
