Rethinking Criminal Justice: Problems Corresponding to Increasing Female Prison Populations
This paper briefly assesses the problems faced by women in prisons. The main problems are inequality of sentences as compared to males, inequality of sentences by race or socio-economic status, and the loss of children. More than 80% of all women in prison are non-violent offenders. Those who were violent offenders tended to be acting as defense against abuse.
