Within this paper, I interrogate the concept Chinese History by analyzing it from a number of different viewpoints. I define Chinese History as the history of the Chinese people, then complicate that definition by suggesting that Chinese History can be thought of as existing exclusively within China itself, and then destabilize this counterargument by severing the direct relationship between an individual's cultural identity and the country where they live. I use Canadian culture to demonstrate the ways in which Chinese history is present in a country outside of China, while also suggesting that Chinese history is only reflected by Chinese Canadians who choose to identify with their Chinese origins.
