Using Tradition to Rewrite History: African-American Artist Faith Ringgold and Her Story Quilts
This paper discusses the artwork of African-American female artist Faith Ringgold. The paper examines reasons that Ringgold chose to work in the medium of story quilts, the historical significance of quilting and storytelling to African-Americans, and the political and social meanings of Ringgold's works, by describing in detail several of Ringgold's story quilts.
