This paper will examine the role of theme of appetite and desire in 17th Century dutch paintings. By exploring the works of Rembrandt, Vermeer, and Rubens, we can surely see how Puritanical thought influenced the many moral tales of appetite and desire behold, as well as those non-convenational aspects of Dutch painting that rebelled against strict moral codes of the time. By revealing the genre of these Dutch painters, we can see how they confront appetite and desire in their works.
