The early period of American Modern art is marked by the remnants of Wars and of massive social upheaval. Late in 1943 or early in 1944, Jackson Pollock painted his first wall-size work, called "Mural." From the early 1940s on, Pollock also created numerous works on paper, ranging from drawings to mixed-media paintings that parallel the development of his work on canvas. Georgia O'Keefe brought a wholly different angle to the early period of modern American art. Max Weber's work was marked definitively by the holocaust.
