This paper uses an interview with a family member named Richard Van Allan concerning his war service during the Viertnam period in the 1960s to consider how he was affected by the protests of the time and how he was influenced by his service in the Special Forces so that he saw Vietnam as a necessary action in which some mistakes were made but not as an American crime.
