African American Studies: Analyzing The Souls of Black Folk by W.E. Dubois and the Symbolism of the Black Veil
In this paper, we will examine three pivotal chapters in analyzing the Black Veil in Duboiss The Souls of Black Folk. By understanding how social, economic, and religious status of the African American are defined by racist white hegemony, we can realize why Dubois felt the dual consciousness of being a human being, as well as that of being a secondary citizen as a black man under the Black Veil.
